One of my favorite films is “The great Gatsby” from the director Baz Luhrmann.
In the summer of 1922, Nick Carraway moves to New York. He rents a small house, next door to the millionaire Jay Gatsby, a man who organizes extravagant parties with hundreds of people. Gatsby is still in love with Nick´s cousine Daisy, but they haven´t seen each other for years and unfortunately Daisy had married. Nick arranges a date for Daisy and Jay Gatsby and they fall in love. A few weeks later, an accident happens and a woman dies. Daisy was driving the car, but Gatsby tooks the blame on himself. In the end, the husband of the dead woman shot Gatsby and he died innocently.
I think it is a very dramatically story, but you have to see this film.

I want to give you a review about a film, I absolutely like!
The film is called “To Save A Life” and is directed by Brian Baugh.
The thematic elements are teen suicide, teen drinking, disturbing images and friendship.

The story is about Jake Taylor, who is a Teenager at High school. It opens with the funeral of his ex-best friend Roger.
Rogers hasn’t any friends since Jake become a basketball star at their school and joins another group of friends. So one day Roger decides that he can’t live in this way and he comes to school with a gun. Jake, knowing what Roger was going to do, tries to stop him, but Roger tells him that it is too late and shoots himself. Roger dies from this injuries and Jake wonders if he could have saved him by being a better friend.
A few days after the funeral, Jake meets Chris, the pastor of Roger’s funeral and a youth pastor. They have a conversation and they speak about Roger.
However, in the next few scenes of the film, Jake meets the pastor often because of different situations like Jake needs a lift and he calls the pastor, who picks him up.
Jake, who still struggles in dealing with Roger’s death, attends church several times. One Sunday Amy, Jake’ girlfriend, joins him at church, but she leaves after feeling judged. “Jake confronts the group about their shallow faith and failure to be inclusive and inviting. Chris asks for a solution and Andrea, a girl of this group, suggests that they all have lunch together at school.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Save_a_Life)
For the following weeks they all meet at lunch every day. A boy, called Jonny, who always sits alone, gets Jack’s attention and so Jake goes to him and asked him if he wants to eat with them. At first he doesn’t want, but after a few days, he eats with them and got new friends.
There happened a lot of things like a bomber threat at school, but I can’t describe all this things. It would be too much.
Anyway, at the end of the film Jack gets a letter from Jonny. He writes that he actually felt like Roger, thinking about killing himself, and if Jake didn’t invite him for lunch that one day, he didn’t know where he would be at the moment.

Even if the film isn’t synchronized well (in German), I think you should watch it, because the thematic is really good!

I want to give you a review about a film I have seen some weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. It is called Camille and it is a dramatical love story.

Camille, the film is named after her, and her boyfriend Silas have just marrierd and they are going on a honeymoon (Hochzeitsreise) together across the United States and their destination are the Niagara waterfalls. But Camille`s husband is previously convicted so he can`t leave the US and the police is watching him especially Camille`s father whoes is also a policeman. They are driving a few miles until they come to a gas station. There they become anoyed, and he drives away. But suddenly he comes back an they reconcile themselves again. Then they are driving on a road in their motorcycle as Camille suddenly lost her wedding ring. Her husband just wants to get it back but they are having and accident and Camille is badly hurt and her husband runs to a house to organise help. But the people in the nearest house don´t believe him, so he runs back to Camille. But it is to late, she dies in her husbands arms. He is very sad and he goes to an river and suddenly he sees her standing in the river. Camille talks to him and doesn´t know what had just happend so he takes her away, because he is afraid that the police will catch him because they later think that he had killed his wife. On their journey they also meet an old rodeo cowboy who he has got some horses. But those horses are unusual, because they are colored. Blue, pink, yellow and one is just very old (it is called Maggie and the Cowboy wants to shoot it). They make some experience adventures with the Cowboy and they get him better to know. During the film Camille and Silas get very close and they are loving each other more as ever before. Camille is falling in pieces during the film because of the accident and her husband is doing everything for her. At the end they came to the Niagara waterfalls an Silas wants an tourist to make a photo of them, but when he returns Camille suddenly disappears. He wants to find her but the police found him and want to arrest him him because the are still thinking that he killed her. Silas doesn’t want to go to prison, so the police shoots him. Suddenly Camille comes on the old cowboy`s horse Maggie and takes her husband with her. At the end she says to him tha tfor her it was the most lovely honeymoon and he says: “Me too”. And then they disappear with the horse in the waterfalls. Then it begins to rain rice from the sky.

Recently I was watching the movie „Rush“ directed by Ron Howard in 2013. I absolutely liked watching it! It is a biography about the famous Formula One driver Niki Lauda and it reports on a part of his life.

Now I want to give you a short report about the movie.
There are two main characters. One of them is Niki Lauda, who is very determined, ambitious, focused, intelligent and people call him rat, because of his face. The other one is the good looking, popular, attractive James Hunt, who enjoys every day of his life. Both are Formula One drivers and competitors.
In the first season Niki Lauda is invincible and James Hunt always ends up behind him. So Niki gets his first world champion titles. Nevertheless is he Niki Laudas strongest competitor and in the second season, James wins his first Formula One race and increases the pressure on Lauda. On the day when one of the difficult courses is supposed to be held, the weather is very terrible and there shouldn’t be a Formula One race. Niki Lauda doesn’t want to drive the race, but James Hunt challenges him.
The rain doesn’t stop and in a curve Niki Lauda has a terrible accident. He burns his face skin and they transplant skin from his leg to his face. At that time, Niki suffers a lot of pain, but 42 days later he drives his first Formular One race since his accident. Now the battle for the victory between James Hunt and Niki Lauda starts again.
In the deciding race Niki stops the course, because of the rain. Therefore James Hunt wins the battle and gets his first world champion title.
In the next few years Niki Lauda is world champion twice and successful, James Hunt stops to drive races and dies at 45.

I was really skeptic at the beginning, because I am not very interested into Formula One, and I thought the movie would be very boring. But I was convinced of the contrary.

I recently saw „The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift“.
It’s about a guy named Sean Boswell who takes part in illegal car races.
One day he has to move to Tokyo because of an accident which he caused.
He isn’t allowed to drive anymore but he gets introduced to Tokyo’s drift racing scene.
Sean also gets in trouble with Takashi aka „Drift King“ because he talked to his girlfriend.

In this film there are many fights and crashed cars, but also interesting scenes.
You know the ending when you watch the first minutes when he is at the japanese school. In the end Sean wins against Takashi and the old drift king has to leave. He gets the girl and so on.
If you are interested in car racing films then you should watch it.

I am writing a review about one of my favourite films, a romantic drama.
The film is called “Für immer Liebe” or in English “The Vow” and it’s directed by Michael Sucsy.
I saw the film on DVD and I just fell in love with it at the first time.
The main characters in the movie are Channing Tatum who plays Leo Collins and Rachel McAdams who plays Paige Collins.

Leo and Paige are just married and very happy together.
But one day, they have a terrible car accident because a truck crashes into their car.
When Paige wakes up in the hospital she doesn’t recognize her husband Leo.
She doesn’t know who Leo is because she has lost her memory of the last five years.
Leo can hardly believe this and he is just shocked.
He tries everything he can to get Paige back to remember him and their wonderful life together before the accident.
Although Paige doesn’t remember at him, she contacts her parents and ex-boyfriend again.
It’s a hard time for Leo but he doesn’t give up because he loves Paige so much.
So Leo has to get her to fall in love with him one more time.
Suddenly Paige finds out from an old friend that her father had an affair with one of her friends and because of that she canceled the contact with her parents years ago.
From that moment Paige begins to trust Leo a bit more and Leo enjoys spending time with her a lot.
But if you want to know if Paige gives their relationship a chance again or if Leo loses her big love forever you have to watch this great film by your own.
I am sure, you will not regret it!

I like this film so much because I find it so romantically how Leo fights for his big love and he never stops believing that there is still a second chance for them and their relationship.
I think the most exciting thing about this story is the fact that you absolutely want to know if they get back together again during the whole film.
Additionally, this film is based on a true story.

Hey guys, I want to tell you somenthing about the film “Twelve years a slave”. The film is based on a real story and the film can be seen at the cinema at the moment. The film is really sad, but also great. It deals with slavery and the lives of slaves.

The Slaves have to work hard and they receive punishment for every mistake. The farmer tortures his slaves to death and that´s really terrible and cruel. I like the film and for me it is also the best film I have seen for years.

I like the protognist because he doesn´t give up his fight for freedom. I like the scene when he plays the violine. That is really nice because I like the sound of violins.

All in all, I really recommend the film and therefore I do not want to give away too much info about the film.

Wow that seems to be quite intense, and almost like a theatre play. I’ve wanted to see this movie for a long time because it stars some of my favourite actors, for example Michael Fassbender, he is brilliant (and kind of hot). But Chiwetel Ejiofor’s performance has definitely earned an Oscar.

Ms Gassenbauer I have to tell you a little story about this film. Can you remember the first semester where you brought some books to our class which we can read for the book review? You also took the book „Divergent“ with you and when you gave us a short summery I was immediately interested in this book. But from my point of view, it has lots of pages to read and i wanted a thinner book so i didn’t read it.
And lately my cousin asked me if i wanted to go to the cinema with her and she told me the title. I just thought about the name because I had the feeling I have heard about it before and after some thinking I realized that this is the film of the book which you showed us. From that moment on I was really looking forward for watching this film and actually I loved it. I think it was a big mistake not to read the book but maybe I will do that during the holidays if I have some time.
But I can’t judge if the German or the English version is better because I just saw the German film and as I mentioned I think it was really great. The plot was so interesting and as I see it is very similar to „The Hunger Games“ which I like very much too.
So if someone hasn’t watched the film – DO IT! You won’t regret it.

I’m happy that you liked the movie. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. Maybe because the books were just sooooo great my expectations were quite high. So you definitely should read the books, they are brilliant!

    I really love Til Schweiger.
So one of my favourite films is “Keinohrhasen” or in Englisch “Rabbit Without Ears”.
I saw the film in the cinema 2008 and I just fell in love with it at the first time.

The main characters in the movie are Til Schweiger who plays Ludo and Nora Tschirner who plays Anna Gotzlowski.

Ludo is a famous press reporter in Berlin. With his photographer Moritz his task is to spy on well known people. He is also a guy who uses work for sexual contacts.
One day Ludo and Moritz are on the scene to report about the heavyweight boxer Wladimir Klitschko and the celebrity Yvonne Catterfeld at their engagement party. Ludo breaks through a class dome and falls into the cake.
The consequence are 300 hours of community service at a daycare center.

There he meets Anna, the kindergarten manager, who is his ex-classmate. Anna grew up in the same neighborhood as Ludo did. Ludo bullied Anna when they were younger.

At first they don’t like each other very much, because she gets her revenge by landing him with all kinds of duties and because he is only interested in a one-night stand with a mother of a child from the daycare center.

After some time both realize that they feel more for each other than they have thought.

But if you want to know if Anna and Ludo come together or how the story ends watch the film yourself.
I’m sure you will not regret it!

I really like the film because I love the plot of this story and the kids of the daycare center are so cute.
I also like that Til Schweiger plays together with his youngest child.

If you haven’t seen it already watch it. There is also a second part called “Zweiohrküken” and soon there will follow a third part too.

I watched the movie “Die Schadenfreundinnen” and I really liked it.
It is a very funny film and I´m sure you would laugh a lot of times too.
The main actors are three women and one man named Mark.
One of the women ist his wife Kate, the others are his lovers.
One of his lovers is a pretty young woman with a sexy body called Amber and the other is the successful lawyer Carly.

At the begining they don´t know each other. Futhermore they all think that they have a good relationship and are the most important person for Mark.
Incidentally Carly decides to visit him at his house. There she meets his wife Kate.
Both are very shocked – they plan how to take revenge.

During this time they become friends, and find his new affair – Amber.
They tell her the whole story and now they plan how to hurt Mark.
The best way is to take all his Money and tell his boss, that Mark betrays his firm.

By the way they put hormones in his food – he gets breasts.
Futhermore they put hair removal cream in his shampoo and laxatives (Abführmittel) in his drink.

These all are really funny and entertaining szenes.
At the end they “destroy” him and get best friends.

    Hey!

Recently I saw a very good film called “Lone Survivor”!
This film is very interesting because it´s based on a true story and it´s a war film from America.

The main characters are Mark Wahlberg (Marcus Luttrell), Taylor Kitsch (Michael Murphy), Emile Hirsch (Danny Dietz) and Ben Foster (Matt “Axe” Axelson).

This film is about the Taliban’s and his leader Ahmad Shah in Afghanistan who terrorizes a town named Hindu Kush.
Marcus Luttrell, Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz and Axe have to go to this village to capture Ahmad.
At first they had to make a trek through the mountains so that the Taliban can´t see and hear them.
When the four reached the designated location, they are discovered by a shepherd and two goat herders.
The team releases the herders after a long discussion and decided to stop this mission and go back where they come from. But there is one problem, that they have no reception with their Walkie talkies and with the mobile phone so they can´t fly back because the basis don´t know that they are in trouble.
The Taliban`s are faster than the team and they found them, so they SEALS have to fight against the Taliban´s.
Despite their injuries from the fight they flee through the wood and jump over the edges of cliffs.
But if you want to know how this film ends you have to watch the film yourself.

I personally like the film very much because it´s a very interesting and exciting film. When you think that this is based on a true story it´s more emotional and you can feel with them when you see the pictures from the real mission at the end of the film.

    Into the Wild

Can you imagine putting all your necessary belongings in a backpack, to burn all your money and your identity cards and to give up your teenage-life for an adventure?
I’ll be honest with you: I can’t do it but I always admire those who do.
Christopher McCandless is one of the most inspiring persons I’ve ever heard of.

Recently I’ve seen the movie based on his true story and I was astonished by his life and the decisions he made.
However, here is a short summary of the movie and not of the novel of the same title or his real life experience.

22 year-old Christopher McCandless graduates from Emory University. He is a top student and grows up in a rich family, which always focus on their image and their success in business, although his dad is cruel and not kind.
A short time after his graduation, Christopher decides to abandon his own possessions, gives his entire savings account to charity and drives along the road until his car breaks down.
Just his backpack with him he starts to hitchhike and walks into the wild with one wish:
He wants to get to Alaska.
On his journey he meets many people who change his life and attitude and he give him a new name: “Alexander Supertramp”.
Between starvation, violence and the unknown that lies before him, he travels in the North, no matter what difficulties he is facing to.

The running time is about 148 minutes, which may seem long at first, but in fact is also a breathtaking documentary about the beauty of the wild nature.
It is directed by Sean Penn who tried to adapt the story of the book “Into the wild” by Jon Krakauer (1996).
The main actors are Emile Hirsch (Christopher McCandless), Marcia Gay Harden (his mother) and Wiliam Hurt (his father).
The movie neither the book is presented in a chronological order but instead in a cutting back and forth between his time spent in Alaska, his two year journey to get there and the memories of his childhood.

It is the thrill of living in the wild without any money or possessions that fascinates me.
The author Jon Krakauer wrote a comment about reactions he got from readers.
Some of them see Christopher McCandless as example for an authentic living, rejecting conformity and materialism; others just think he was an idiot who went unprepared into the wild.
Although there are many different opinions about his biography, the book or the movie, you have to admit that the story touches your heart.

To sum up, I would recommend the” biographical drama survival film” (that’s the genre!), which was nominated for two Golden Globes, to everyone who like true stories and adventures.
    🙂

Thanks for your brilliant review! I also think it’s a great film, very moving indeed. It touches on various issues such as nature and man’s role in it, relationships, and consumerism. But it’s most certainly not one of those feel-good-movies, I felt sort of depressed after watching it.

Here’s the brand new Insurgent trailer! I’m not sure what to think of it, though, as it’s seems that a lot of changes have been made. I know it’s difficult to satisfy the audience with book to movie adaptions and to stay as true to the book as possible, especially with a book whose fandom is as big as the Divergent series’ one. I personally didn’t like the first film, although I’m a big fan of the series as such. But I suppose I’ll watch the second installment nevertheless.

I’ve read the book of this movie about 3 weeks ago and the moment I was finished I found out that they are going to make a movie about it! I’m so looking forward to it cause I really loved the book. Cheryl is a really strong female character hiking an incredibly long way through the PCT to find herself.
For me it’s a must-see! I hope I won’t be disappointed though, but the beautiful landscapes that will be featured in the movie will be enough for me I guess.

I want to tell you something about the film “Honig im Kopf” from Til Schweiger. The film is great and can be seen at the cinema at the moment. The film is really sad, but also funny and that is really fascinating.

The soundtrack is also great and the best protagonists for me are the little girl and the grandfather. I like the scene when they are on the car ride together. I watched the film “everything, everything” last week in the cinema. It is about a girl named Maddy who suffers from a rare disease. Due to that she has to stay in the house all day long. Years ago she lost her father and her brother so she lives in a big house with her mum and her doctor. Her life is very boring until a new family happens to move into the next house. When Maddy looks out of her window she sees a boy who she likes very much. They start communicating with their phones and soon become friends (or maybe more?). However, the boy – Olly – falls in love with her … The film has a very surprising end!!! I can only recommend to watch it.
