In our English lessons we talked about Photoshop and the social influence of unrealistic Models on TV or in Magazines.
Now i found the SHOCKING Video where you can see how unbelivable the internet works.

Blimey, a pizza! Seriously, it’s crazy what you can do with photoshop.

It’s the start of a new year and everyone probably has some newyear’s resolutions. The most famous one is always to do more sports and lose weight. While I think doing sports is never a bad resolution as long as one don’t overdoes it, losing weight can lead to serious problems – physically and mentally – if done the wrong way. I’ve watched a speech today which deals with a topic that I find really important in today’s society.

    and another one:

Anyways, happy new year everyone! Keep up the good work, stay positive and try to stay with your resolutions as long as possible 😉

      Word! I couldn’t agree more!
I’m trying to deal with this topic a lot in class, but I get the feeling that students have difficulties admitting to being influenced by ads and the media in general. I think this ignorance is dangerous. Media literacy involves being aware of the media’s impact and its manipulative power. Therefore, people like Jean who talk about this topic passionately and relentlessly are all the more important. Because what these unattainable images are doing to women and girls is just damaging and irresponsible. And I’m saying this fully conscious of the fact that I’m totally buying into this ideal concept of beauty myself. We are all part of a consumerist society, we all want to buy the values along with the products.
However, I’ve never thought about the link between the objectification of women and sexual violence – when it’s actually so obvious! This connection must be talked about more. Every girl should be aware of the destructive impact of the images we’re bombarded with on a daily basis! So my new year’s resolution: be more satisfied with myself and teach more media literacy.

And kudos to Lorde and Kate Winslet – two extraordinarily talented, intelligent and beautiful women!

Finally, a superficial afterthought: I had the same haircut as Jean Kilbourne once. And even though she’s a little older than I am, I seriously consider having my hair cut that way again 🙂

Thanks for the videos! Happy new year!!
